Step 1: Pay Fee & Reserve NSO Session

New Student Orientation reservations will open on Tuesday, April 9 at 1 p.m. EST.

Step 1: Pay Fee & Reserve NSO Fee

Now that you’ve been admitted, it’s time to start your Pre-Orientation Checklist. Up first: Paying your New Student Orientation Fee and reserving your NSO session date!

New Student Orientation Fees

UNC Charlotte works hard to keep our orientation fees as one of the lowest in the state of North Carolina. All fees cover program meals, materials, necessary program staffing and technology expenses. Fees are paid via your Future 49er Portal.

Paying your NSO student fee is required prior to selecting your session date. Guest fees will be paid at the completion of your reservation.

Enrollment Programs & Communications is finalizing orientation fees for 2024-25. More information on specific fee amounts will be available in early March 2024.

How to Pay Your NSO Fee

  • Submit Your Intent to Enroll: Make sure UNC Charlotte knows that you are planning to attend by submitting your Intent to Enroll form in your Future 49er Portal.
  • Pay Your NSO Fee: Beginning Tuesday, April 9 at 1 p.m. EST, you will have access to pay your NSO student fee. The fee is automatically applied to your account following your Intent to Enroll submission and will be paid directly through the portal.

Frequently Asked Questions

I HAVE PAID THE FEE, BUT MY PORTAL SAYS I HAVE NOT. WHY DOES IT SAY THAT?

If the reservation system is stating there is a pending payment, then there is still a payment due. If a payment attempt is made but the payment fails, this can show up as a pending payment within your bank account. Please reach out to orientation@charlotte.edu if you have any payment questions.

WHAT DO I DO IF I CANNOT ATTEND?

NSO is required for all new students in order to make sure you successfully transition to campus. If you have personal limitations that prevent you from completing your NSO requirement, email orientation@charlotte.edu with your name, 801# and detailed information on why you are seeking a program exemption. Please know that limited program exemptions are granted.

WHY CAN’T I SIGN UP FOR THE SPECIFIC DATE I WANT?

You are able to see the NSO session dates with remaining seats available. If you do not see a NSO session date in the reservation portal, this means that the session is full.

I WANT TO CHANGE MY MAJOR, CAN I DO THAT AT NSO?

It is highly recommended that you change your major as quickly as possible, and that you do so in advance of your completion of the New Student Modules. Your modules contain important academic information needed prior to Virtual Advising & Registration, so changing your major in advance ensures that you receive the correct information for your advising and registration process.

WHY DO I HAVE A HOLD?

There are a few reasons that you may have a hold on your account.

  • New Student Orientation Hold: This hold will be released within 24 hours of the completion of your New Student Modules.
  • Advising Hold: After completing your New Student Modules, you must complete virtual advising with your academic college to lift the Advising Hold. More information will be available in your modules.
  • Undergraduate Admissions (UA) Hold: If you have this hold, you may need to submit additional documentation required by the University. Questions about UA holds can be directed to admissions@charlotte.edu.
