Additional FAQs
Day-of Logistics
What should I wear to my in-person session?
Students and families are encouraged to dress comfortably for New Student Orientation. Wear comfortable shoes as you will be moving between different buildings throughout the program as well. Layers (light jackets) and Niner Pride are also encouraged.
Do I need to bring anything to my in-person session?
Students should not need to bring any documents (e.g., transcripts or test scores) to their sessions. If there are any documents needed, those will be shared with you directly via email.
Where specifically do I part the morning of my session?
Students and registered family members will be sent information on parking (including any required QR codes) in their session reminder emails sent prior to the session. These will be sent to the student’s UNC Charlotte email, as well as the family member email provided on the reservation. Parking for most sessions will be in the Union Deck, unless otherwise indicated.
What’s the daily schedule for the in-person session?
In-person sessions run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each session day. Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. followed by the resource fair and optional campus tours.
Students: During the day, students will meet their Orientation Counselor, hear about essential campus services, and spend time in small groups with other incoming students. Students will have presentations both together and separate from their family members.
Family Members: During the day, families will hear about essential campus services (Family & Supporter Engagement, financial aid and billing, academic colleges), meet faculty and staff, and connect with other family members and Orientation Counselors. Families will have presentations both together and separate from their students.
Dietary Needs
How do I request dietary accommodations or notify NSO of a food allergy?
Students and guests provide information on needed dietary accommodations or allergies directly on their reservation form. Common dietary needs are offered as options with additional space to provide others. NSO works to accommodate most common dietary needs and allergies through our menus or dining hall offerings. NSO staff will follow up directly with any provided accommodations not included in our current menus.
Who do I contact ahead of my session about my dietary needs?
We strongly encourage you to provide those accommodation requests on your reservation form. If you have additional questions or would like to talk with a team member, email us at orientation@charlotte.edu. For accommodations needed beyond NSO, we encourage you to reach out to the Office of Accessibility & Accommodation at oaa-office@charlotte.edu or 704‑687‑0040.
Sibling and Guest Clarifications
Can a sibling older than three attend, and do they need their own reservation?
Yes, siblings are welcome to attend as a guest to the program. Siblings over three are required to have a reservation and pay the family/guest fee ($100). The fee is required to cover their meals and materials during the session.
Important Note: Due to space limitations, students are allowed to add up to two guests to their reservation. Siblings are included in that count.
Is there anything for siblings to do during Family sessions?
There are no specific sessions for siblings during New Student Orientation. For younger siblings, coloring pages will be provided at check-in.
AP, IB, and Transfer Credit
Who do I contact about AP, IB, or transfer credit questions before Virtual Advising?
To confirm if your transcript or test scores have been received, check your Future 49er Portal. For questions about sending and receiving transcripts, review the Undergraduate Admissions website or contact them at admissions@charlotte.edu.
To view your transfer credit awarded, view your Transfer Credit Report in your Future 49er Portal:
- Locate your Transfer Credit Report.
- Log into your Future 49er Portal.
- Click on My Transfer Credit Report found above Application Checklist.
- Understand your credit evaluation.
- View course-by-course equivalency chart: left side shows courses from your previous institution(s)/ right side outlines UNC Charlotte equivalent course.
- View total number of courses that transfer.
- View total number of awarded credits that transfer.
Will my credit be posted before I register for classes?
Transcripts are reviewed in the order they are received. Most credit is evaluated within 15 days of your admission, pending UNC Charlotte receiving your transcript. To view how your transfer credit might be awarded, utilize the Transfer Credit Advisor.
Availability of your transfer credit will depend on the timing of UNC Charlotte receiving your final transcript and your Virtual Advising appointment. If your transfer credit is not available by your appointment, have unofficial transcripts available during your appointment to assist your advisor in providing course recommendations.
Virtual Advising Logistics
Where will my appointment take place?
All advising appointments for incoming students will take place virtually on Zoom.
Where do I find the Zoom link for my appointment?
Your Zoom link will be sent to you one hour before your appointment to your University email.
I didn’t receive my Zoom link. What should I do?
Email your advisor (or advising office) using the email address from your confirmation email. If you aren’t able to get in contact with your advisor, you can contact orientation@charlotte.edu for assistance.
I’m not able to attend my appointment. How do I reschedule?
Return to your confirmation email and cancel your existing appointment. Once your appointment is cancelled, return to your New Student Orientation Portal (via your Future 49er Portal) to schedule a new appointment.
What takes place during my Virtual Advising appointment?
Virtual Advising is specific to your academic college and major, and appointments may look a little different based on your major. Most appointments will be either in a group or individual. Your advisor will review important information about your course requirements and provide next steps on getting registered. Students are strongly encouraged to register for courses immediately finishing their advising appointment.
